Installation Options for Clayton Terracotta Facade System

Terracotta cladding is a prominent solution in modern architecture with rising popularity within the Australian market. It's now a popular choice for a diverse range of projects including hospitals, schools, museums and mixed commercial/residential developments.

Introducing Clayton Terracotta Façade System

Fairview’s new range of terracotta panels and architectural elements combines traditional craftsmanship with cutting-edge technology.

Key benefits

Rainscreen façades protect the structure of the building from moisture, including rain and condensation, through a multi-layer barrier system, and is less prone to single failure point based on site workmanship.

Colour Locked in for Life

A unique feature of Clayton façades is that the colour never fades. This is thanks to the firing process which vitrifies the colour into the tile, meaning the tile won’t change colour over its lifetime.

Flexibility of Design Options

Available in a wide range of standard and custom colours, shapes, profiles and formats.

Compliance

Weatherproofed to AS4284 and deemed non-combustible under C2D10(5)(G) NCC 2022.

Sustainability & Thermal Performance

Clayton is highly durable against damage, resulting in reduced waste. At the end of the life cycle of terracotta, the material can be repurposed, recycled or formed into debris and returned to the Earth. Clayton also withstands harsh weather conditions and improves energy efficiency by maintaining desired internal temperatures.

Warranty & Life Expectancy

15-year warranty and a long-life expectancy due to resistance to extreme UV and harsh weather. The material is durable against weather conditions, scratching and graffiti while keeping its colour over a long period.

Low Maintenance

Quick and easy to clean with a high pressure wash every 2-3 years.

Flexibility of Installation

Clayton can be installed using three methods making it a popular choice for installers. The three installation options are shown in the animated videos below.

Installation Methods for Clayton Terracotta

Fairview’s Clayton Terracotta Facade System can be installed in three different ways. Each system is designed to provide maximum stability, durability and ease of installation.

1. Wall Bracket & T-Profile System

Design and Functionality: This system uses vertical T-profiles anchored to the building with wall brackets. The terracotta tiles are fixed by aluminium clips to the vertical profiles via a horizontal tile carrier, allowing for a ventilated cavity that helps regulate the building’s airflow and temperature.

Benefits: The Wall Bracket & T-Profile System provides maximum cavity depth for insulation, enhancing energy efficiency and offering superior protection against weather conditions and impact.

2. Top Hat System

Design and Functionality: This system features vertically mounted top hats installed at predetermined distances based on the building’s loading requirements. The tile carrier is then fixed to the top hats, allowing for secure attachment of the terracotta tiles.

Benefits: The Top Hat System permits deeper cavity depths for enhanced insulation and moisture management. It is particularly suitable for large-scale façade applications where the façade cannot be directly installed onto the sub-framing, or where an additional cavity (24-35mm) is required.

3. Stud Wall System

Design and Functionality: In this system, the tile carrier rail is mounted directly onto the stud framing, resulting in a shallower cavity depth. This method reduces the use of sub-framing components, speeding up installation and lowering costs.

Benefits: The Stud Wall System is ideal for projects requiring a fast and cost-effective installation. Its streamlined approach ensures that the terracotta tiles are securely fixed while minimising the overall installation time.
